Preparations are in full swing for the Dubai Duty free Tennis Championship tournament taking place from 15th – 27th February at the stadium in Garhoud. This tournament once again will feature a cluster of the world’s best players, with Serena Williams, Novak Djokovic and Rodger Fedrer among those heading to Dubai. This year marks the 24th men’s event and the 16th women’s event. Many of the committee members have been involved in the championships since its inception, and have reviewed plans for this year‘s social program to accompany the event with a range of entertaining activities and opportunities for lucky fans to win those sought after finals tickets. Tickets for the event have gone on sale on 18th of January from the Box Office at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Stadium. The Executive vice chairman of Dubai Duty Free, Colm McLoughlin, voiced their excitement about the tournament as well as the caliber of the players which is a sure fine way of first-class action for everyone to enjoy.
In what is traditionally one of the most competitive tennis events in the world, an impressive line-up of starts are heading to Dubai joined by world number one Serena Williams and seven-time Dubai winner Rodger Fedrer. Kerber’s stunning three-set thriller against Williams came after the German had saved a match point in her opening match making her the first woman in the Open Era to win the Australian open having saved a match point in the first round.
Despite her defeat in Australia no-one will question the phenomenal ability of a player who had won her previous eight Grand Slam Finals. Williams is set to return with a
bang and secure her first title in Dubai at her fifth attempt.
Equal to the record set by Roy Emerson in the 1960s, Djokovic was able to continue his recent dominance against the world number two Andy Murray, earning his 11th victory in their last 12 meetings. In the hope of adding to his astonishing 61 career titles, Djokovic will now prepare to return to Dubai. Novak Djokovic has already proven his ability by not only winning so many Grand Slams but also four titles here in Dubai, and Angelique Kerber is only the fourth player to have beaten Williams in a Grand Slam Final. We look forward to seeing if anyone is up to the challenge of stopping Kerber and Djokovic from continuing their success.Dubai being one of the most attractive tourist destinations in the world makes it the perfect host city for a world class ATP tournament.
